The Terracotta-Dog by Andrea Camilleri (European Book Club)

Location: Istituto Italiano di Cultura – Vancouver

In September, 2010, the Istituto joined the newly-established Canadian branch of EUNIC, the network of the international cultural relations institutes from the member states of the European Union. Along with the IIC, the EUNIC-Canada cluster counts the Alliance Française, the Goethe Institut and the Instituto Cervantes among its members. Several activities are being studied. The first project to be launched under this new umbrella is a European book club: one book every two months, rotating between French, German and Italian authors (for now! more countries joining) – all in their English translation.

The first meeting took place on Sat, May 28 – the German author chosen was Jenny Erpenbeck, with her novel Visitation.

The club will continue with the Italian book, Andrea Camilleri’s The Terra-cotta Dog, which will be discussed – with the help of Prof. Mario Inglese – at the Istituto on Thu., September 22 at 6:15 pm.

The French meeting will conclude this first round discussing Muriel Barbery’s The Elegance of the Hedgehog, in November at the Alliance Française (date and details tba).

Participation in the EU book club is free, but registration is required:
