The Institute of European Studies (IES) is a vital research and outreach unit within the Department of
Political Science. IES is an interdisciplinary unit with particular a focus on the study of immigration &
diversity and political economy in Europe, both at the national and supranational level. Much of this work
is undertaken in comparative perspective, including comparisons with Canada and the United States. The
Institute has an active research and outreach program through its external speaker series, conferences,
and research colloquia which bring together faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students engaged
in the study of Europe across campus. The Institute regularly hosts scholars, journalists, and policy
makers from Europe who further enrich its interdisciplinary and policy-engaged environment.
This is a 60% term position ending December 31, 2020 with a possibility of extension.
The Administrative and Program Assistant provides confidential and complex secretarial and
administrative support to the Director of IES. This position is responsible for overseeing the day to day
activities of the IES in collaboration and under the direction of the Director of IES and the Administrative
Manager of Political Science. This position will from time to time provide administrative support to
Departmental programs and activities as necessary.
This position is critical as the Institute expands its research capacity and builds its reputation as a
research hub. This position will assist in attracting and supporting researchers in the Institute and in
seeking and procuring research funds. This position requires an individual with strong work ethics, a self-starter
and with the capacity to follow through on tasks.
